About Us
Chart Art is the brilliant concept of internationally known yachting photographer Rick Tomlinson and his wife Annika, the licensee, with the rights to reproduce derived nautical chart images on high quality canvas or paper. The Chart Art idea has evolved from the successful range of tableware featuring chart designs merging with Rick's fantastic photographs that are printed on to canvas.
Annika started Living by the Seaside in 2007, having obtained the license rights to reproduce UK Navigation Charts on to tableware, sourcing eco friendly manufacturers in Sweden and importing mugs, napkins and trays to the UK.
Rick and Annika live and work in Hamble, where the sea and coast is never far away, it plays a big part in their lives for relaxation, inspiration and work...

About your canvas:
Your Chart Art will be printed onto high quality 50% linen + 50% cotton canvas and stretched over the finest genuine wooden artists stretcher bars complete with stretching wedges ready for you to hang when it arrives at your address.
The printing process uses technologically advanced 12 colour UV ink printed onto the finest artists canvas, which is sourced from some of the biggest international art suppliers. Museum Quality Artists Stretcher Bars are made of the finest quality European kiln dried knotless pine, which has the advantage of being extremely hard wearing and not susceptible to warping that cheaper woods are prone to. Each bar features a rounded back edge which is designed to ensure that the canvas is always kept a full 12" (13mm) above the stretcher bar to ensure that there can be no ghost impressions on the canvas. These stretcher bars also incorporate 'wedges' which are placed in each corner and allow the canvas to be stretched extremely tightly over the frame. The larger sizes have cross bars for more support. Each Chart Art canvas print, or paper print, is made individually to order by hand. The canvas print is wrapped in lots of bubble wrap and placed in a sturdy box for shipping. We export to Europe and the World.
Custom charts
ChartArt can customize any chart to show just a small part or splice two charts together, but most popular is showing an individual yachts track during a race like the Fastnet or Round the Island. We have arranged with Yellow Brick to supply us tracks from all the major races, or you can supply the track from a cruise, or we can draw a generic track linking ports along a route. Text and photographs can be added, almost anything is possible. HOW ARE CHAT ART CANVAS PRINTS MADE? Canvases are printed on specialist canvas material using a 12-colour Gicle'e process. This material is then hand-stretched over a hand made wooden canvas frame (made from four separate parts called canvas stretcher bars). The canvas corners are folded tightly over each edge by hand and then the material is fixed with staples to the canvas stretcher bar frame. Tape is then used to cover all staples, ensuring a smooth neat finish. WHAT MATERIAL IS YOUR CANVAS FRAMES MADE FROM? We use European knotless pine frames. This fram is extremly hard wearing and does not warp, unlike many cheaper alternatives. Each canvas stretcher frame is milled with a curved profil and rounded edges. This shape helps to minimise contct with the front face of the canvas, preventing insightly impression marks and surface cracking. We use finger-jointed canvas frames whihc create corner tension helping resist warping. For larger sizes we add wooden "wedges" to each corner; ensuring the canvas surface remainins taut and allowing easy re-stretching in the future years. We want all Chart Art canvases to look good for many years to come! HOW ARE CHART ART CANVAS PACKAGED FOR SHIPPING? All canvases are individaully wrapped in protective bubble-wrap, with cardboard guards to each corner and shipped in heavy duty large card board boxes. WHAT ARE YOUR TYPICAL DELIVERY TIMES? After confirmation of order, proof and then payemnt, canvases are normally received within 7 days but please allow up to ten days depending on delivery address. Dispatch and delivery. *The following is our policy on dispatch:* We will endeavour to dispatch all orders within 7 working days of receipt of order, however this can vary. All products sold by us are specially made to order, so all delivery times quoted are estimated and should be used as a guide only, they are not guaranteed. Should you require an order to be delivered by a specific date or sooner than the estimated date given, please contact us before placing your order so we can confirm if it is possible to fast track delivery. There is no additional charge for fast track dispatch. If your order contains items with different estimated dates, then we reserve the right ship when your whole order is ready. Returns: If the goods delivered are faulty or have been damaged in transit, then we will either exchange the goods free of charge, or give you a full refund including delivery costs (full refund available only on faulty goods),providing the goods are returned to us within 7 days from the date of delivery. Please note any damages need to be reported upon receipt of delivery.
